The City of Oshawa’s state-of-the-art 600-space parking garage incorporates the latest in technology and design innovations.

The structure was built to support the downtown office complex of the Provincial Ministry of Finance, which relocated from Toronto to Oshawa’s core.

The garage was designed with provisions for two additional floors should future expansion be required. It features a fully automated system with access and egress controlled by card readers linked to a central computer system located at City Hall. The system also manages elevator access and monitors fire and security stations, providing comprehensive safety and operational oversight.

The garage uses a clear-span design with most spaces marked at 2.59 m, along with 60 compact spaces at 2.29 m. The structure was built using cast-in-place reinforced concrete with post-tensioning, supported on concrete caisson foundations. All deck surfaces have been waterproofed. To accommodate temperature variations, the structure is divided into five modules that act independently, allowing for expansion and contraction.

Energy-efficient lighting has been installed, and a backup diesel generator ensures continued operation during electrical outages.
